Golf Swing Power

Golf Swing Power
It is indeed possible to improve your golf swing power. Are long hitters born or created? The truth is, some players do the correct things naturally that create a high club-head speed. However, there is hope for us shorter hitters. These same elements can be learned and then we can hang with the long hitters.
Gain More Power!
How do we add more golf swing power?
- Create the angles during the backswing to store the power
- Retain and also increase these angles during transition
- Release the energy stored into the back of the ball at impact
How Good Golfers Do It
Some decent players lacking golf swing power do parts 1 and 3 very well. Their lack of distance is a direct result to the absence of element 2. They simply do not deepen the angles enough through transition. Often times, when these players try to lag better, their golf swings go awry. That's because they are trying to manufacture the lag instead of letting it happen naturally.
Increasing Lag
The key to increasing lag naturally is to use the GROUND. Short hitters swing ON TOP OF the ground whereas long hitters swing INTO the ground. This may sound complicated, but follow along carefully.
Consider a powerful athletic movement like baseball pitching. Notice how a pitcher compresses his rear leg into the mound before unleashing a 95mph fastball. This pitcher is using the ground as resistance to create incredible body speed. Without this compression, his velocity would be greatly diminished. The basic movement is similar to the golf swing, and power is created the exact same way.
Ben Hogan Lag
Ben Hogan's Golf Swing Power
The legendary Ben Hogan had a very powerful golf swing. He said that the secret to great golf was "in the dirt". Many took this to mean that you needed to dig up a lot of dirt-- as in practice.
I think he intended a more literal interpretation the secret is in the DIRT...or the GROUND BENEATH YOUR FEET! He was saying that the most critical element to the golf swing was a player's connection to the ground. Learn to create and maintain resistance against the ground as Ben Hogan did, and you will vastly improve your golf swing power.
